On My Way to Texas

After returning from Hawaii, we left Arizona and hightailed it over to Texas. Our first stop was a WIN gathering at Safford, AZ, where we went to one of my favorite hot springs, Hot Well Dunes. It's out in the middle of nowhere, but has really wonderful facilities.

Our next stop was the McDonald Observatory in west Texas. I had been there 5 years ago and was amazed by all the stars you could see. (This is a photo of a photo that shows what it was like.) Unfortunately, this time there was a full moon, and we could just see the basic constellations.

Moving on to another favorite, the Caverns of Sonora, in Sonora, TX. I had been there before, but it never ceases to amaze me.

They offer small, 1 1/2 hour tours in this unique, privately-owned cavern. The first unique thing is that the cavern is a warm 80 degrees, and very humid.

The pristine formations include this lion's tail.

And lots of beautiful soda straws.

There is even a campground on the premises.

If you are ever in the area, this is a must-see!

  1. What a beautiful cave. We love caves and will have to remember this one whenever we are in that part of Texas.

  2. From your first picture I see the WINS are a tight knit group. :c)

Great cave pictures, love to go spelunking. Never heard of this cave before, it's now on my bucket list.

  4. Wow! Diana, don't you ever rest?!

Just kidding. Glad you made it TX. I'm only 75 miles from Sonora.

  5. Welcome back to the mainland. Where in TX are you headed next? We are at San Angelo State Park and headed to Palo Duro on Wednesday. Then north for the summer.

Would be hoot to meet you.
