I'm Off to Mexico!

In all my years of RVing, I have never taken the RV into Mexico. But that has changed! I'm parked, along with 60 other WINs, in Puerto Penasco (aka Rocky Point) just 60 miles south of the border on the beach of the Sea of Cortez.

One of the first things I did was to go on an ultralight flight. Wow! I've always wanted to do this! Three pilots were lined up waiting for us.

I chose this guy because his equipment looked the newest, and he had ear protection.

Okay, I'm ready...

And off we go! They take off on a dirt road that is shared with cars.

We made a steep turn and headed back towards where we are parked at Concha del Mar campground.

We're following the coastline up to the port of Puerto Penasco.

At one point, another of our group flew right beneath us. This guy was more daring, but I liked my guy, who seemed safer.

Our view of Concha del Mar. It's not usually this crowded, but about half of the RVs are WINs.

There I am - my rig is in the circle.

The port - this is where we turned around.

And headed back by the fancy hotels, which seemed to be pretty vacant.

Our landing spot is past the buildings.

I made it !!!

That night was the first of many beautiful sunsets.

Lots more to come!

Organ Pipe Cactus NM

After Quartzsite and a short stop at Gila Bend, I moved on to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and stayed at their campground with a lot of other WINs. I think we filled them up and then some. I was in the overflow area in the foreground.

We went on a couple beautiful drives. The first was South Puerto Blanco Drive, which goes near the Mexican border. This road was closed for many years because of drug smuggling activity, but is finally open again.

This cute little Mexican dog snuck in under the fence. I hope he finds a good home.

We also saw this hawk and several vultures along the way.

We finally got to our destination, Quitobaquito Spring.

We were expecting to see lots of birds, but they must have heard we were coming...

A view along the fence.

We also did a drive on the Ajo Mountain Drive loop.

The only wildlife we saw was this rather healthy-looking coyote.

This is rumored to be the largest organ pipe cactus in the park.

And it has an anomaly known as a Crestate.

In Arch Canyon are the 2 biggest arches in the park.

The top one looks pretty fragile!

Next - on to Puerto Penasco in Mexico. In all my RVing years, I have never stayed there!

The Biggest Gathering of the Year - Quartzsite!

125 WINs gathered in the desert just north of the town of Quartzsite. Each morning we got together to discuss what we were doing that day. Many days a hot air balloon floated above us.

I did a lot of shopping - at the Big Tent RV show and other areas of town. I didn't take any pictures. But I did get a shot of the "rusty stuff."

Both the Escapee Solos and the Loners on Wheels, other single RV groups, are parked out near us. They both had Dances in the Desert, where they invited all single RVers to join in. They were lots of fun!

The WINs invited all the single RVers to an Ice Cream Social, which was well-attended.

I even met Santa Claus!

And Bagpipe Bob showed up and entertained us.

I also went to the Escapees Happy Hour. LOTS of people here!

The 3rd Annual Bloggerfest was another highlight.

I attended with Kim and Barbara. Kim (aka Kimbopolo) is no longer blogging, but I've been following Barbara (Me, My Dog and My RV) since before she went on the road.

Even the dogs enjoyed getting to meet each other.

Good night!
