Oh Joy! The Ocean Is in View!

So wrote Lewis and Clark when they finally reached the Pacific. We're happy to finally reach the Pacific too, but it didn't take us nearly as long.

When Lewis and Clark got to the Pacific, they had to find a place to stay for the winter, until they could head back. They settled in at Fort Clatsop, so that was our first outing.

We were welcomed by Sacajawea.

And strolled through the replica of Fort Clatsop.

I can't imagine spending a winter here, in cold, rainy weather.

We got our picture taken with some authentically dressed volunteers.

And we listened to a presentation by one of them on the guns used at the time.

And went on a very entertaining ranger-led walk.

This skeleton of an old boat was my favorite part.

Eeeeewwww! We had to watch where we stepped...

We also got to play with some quills like the ones Clark used to write his journal.

Another look at the fort, then into the visitors center.

Inside is a beautiful statue "Arrival," which commemorates the explorers' great achievement in reaching the Pacific.
