Where Have All the Hippies Gone?

Apparently to Nelson, BC, but more on that later...

After going by about 2,300 signs that said "No Overnight Parking" or "No Camping" or even "No vehicles over 7 ft tall," we settled in at the local soccer field, right along the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. I thought it wouldn't work, but it wasn't busy and no one kicked us out.

It was within walking distance of the beach (who knew?) -

Beautiful flower gardens -

Where of course I had to get a shot of a bee -

And lovely murals, which look a little psychedelic. Where are these hippies?

The parking spot was not without its annoyances, though.

Fortunately, not too many trains went through, and I didn't hear any loud noise devices.

I was happy to share my spot with my many new friends.

While at the Visitors Center, we asked about going to Cottonwood Falls Park. It sounded wonderful in the description. The girl behind the counter said, "Well, I guess you could go there if you want to..." Huh???

So off we went, and this is what we found. A lovely waterfall, and about 200 hippies! I think the town must corral them here. They were very nice, and we had a great time.

But since I didn't feel really comfortable with our parking space, we moved on the next day. But we had a nice visit.

  1. I thought that WINs are just grown up hippies. That would explain everything... :cD

  2. A barber could make some extra cash on weekends at this spot...I love waterfalls so I would have to wade thru all that hair to see it.
