Here It Is!

But first, a report on Boyce Thompson Arboreum, up the hill at Superior, AZ. I had been here before, but not when everything was blooming.

It's in a beautiful setting, with tall rocks surrounding the many trails.

It's a different kind of arboretum, filled with just arid land plants.

Of course, that means lots of cactus.

I don't know any of their names, but this one was especially beautiful.

This was a teeny little thing.

These big fat things weren't blooming, but were interesting.

And a pair of Lesser Goldfinches were having a drink.

None of the saguaros at the arboretum were blooming yet because they are at a higher altitude. But, on the way home I stopped off at my favorite saguaro down the street. Wow! It's blooming!

Unfortunately, it's about 40 feet in the air, and I had to take this picture from across the street.

This one was on the next block, and a little lower, but I'm still looking for one closser to the ground. I promise I'll find it! It's either that, or get a big ladder...

  6. The Saguaros will be really pretty when more of the buds are in bloom. I love cactus blossoms. The plants are so tough, and their blossoms so delicate.

Amazing photo of the Lesser goldfinches. :)

  10. Diana - You must have arrived at the arboretum before Sunday. Everything is fine there, but a fairly large forest fire came pretty near close to the arboretum on Sunday afternoon. I was in Superior when I saw a ton of police cars and fire trucks screaming down US-60, and by the time I got back to my campsite there was a thick smoke cloud and the arboretum had been evacuated. On my way out I saw just how close the fire was to the arboretum. Very!

  14. I guess you have to be very careful when you lean in to smell the catus flower!

Very nice pix, even from across the street. With my luck, I'd have been run over by a truck while I was trying to focus...
