Rolling Into Quartzsite

Quartzsite is one of my favorite places to go during the year. Back in 1998, I was still working (very hard during tax season) and wondering if I would ever get here. My friend Marie invited me to fly out and stay with her so I could experience it. Coming over the rise on I10 from Phoenix, I wondered what all those white things were. They were RVs! Amazingly, I am now at my 13th Quartzsite gathering!

But let me digress a little first - I want to congratulate my nephew Mike and his wife Tara on little baby Will. Mike and Tara have been through so much to get to this point! I can't wait to hold my new great-(or grand-?) nephew.

And another digression - Chocolate Cheerios! I am pleased to announce that I am the winner of one of Paul and Marti's famous "Where Am I" contests. I'll pick up my prize in the spring when I am close to where they live. I'm looking forward to meeting them.

Back to Quartzsite - one of the first things I did was go to the free lunch at La Mesa RV. They are determined to show that there IS such a thing as a free lunch!

They are located in an old dance hall and the ceiling is covered with well-used boots.

Back in my rig, I seem to have a lot of these little buggers running around. Does anyone know what they are?

This is the largest WIN gathering of the year - we have 175 members here. In the morning we meet for "Hugs and Mugs," many times being buzzed by the nearby ultralights.

And every day at 4:00 we have our gathering. Judy is hosting the February Dance Rally this year and decided to spice up the promotion - a Hawaii theme this year.

The western desert has the BEST sunsets! They range from orange -

To the unusual pink and blue that I first saw here 13 years ago.

  1. Hmmm...I don't know about those little bug thingys but I don't think I want to meet one! Looks like some kind of a tick. Your sunset photos are just beautiful. Hope you are having the time of your life. Are you going to dance hula?

  2. Hmmm... That bug looks a lot like a bed bug. If you wake up with red welts on your body, you will know for sure. Nasty bugs that are hard to get rid of. Hope I am wrong about this.

  3. Looks like a stink bug to me. Squish one and you'll find out. We never had them in our area till Walmart arrived. Guess who I blame!

  7. I vote for a kind of stink bug, but then I don't know very much about bugs. Enjoy your time in Q. You've got a big bunch of friends to share it with. :)

  10. We're at La Posa West and haven't seen any bugs. Haven't heard anyone else complaining about bugs, either. Maybe they came from your last stop.
Yes, the sunsets have been beautiful!

  12. I do not know about the bug, but seeing the great times in Quartzite makes me think we were wrong to only visit in the off season.

  16. I bet that bug has more protien than Chocolate Cheerios. Probably just as crunchy, though.

We're going to be in Q next year if everything goes accoriding to our plans. When once before back in 2005 and enjoyed it.

Looking forward to presenting your prize in person, too. :c)

  17. Diana,
The bug looks a lot like the stink bugs we've been seeing since last Aug. Every day I come down to a few more on the kitchen floor. They seem to be everywhere on this part of the country.
I've been enjoying being a Nana and going to see Will (and Mike and Tara) every few days.
Hope all is well with you.

  18. How does that free lunch thing work? I wanted to check out Quartszite one of these winters, but a free lunch... that might get me to make a few hundred mile drive a bit sooner :-)

  19. Very beautiful sunsets for sure. Wow on the picture of all those rvs gathered together. I hope that is not a bed bug either but I did think that when I saw that picture, good luck on that. Take care and have fun!
