Fun with the Grandkids

I had a wonderful visit in San Diego with my daughter's family.

Entering Corrie's house, I immediately noticed that the restrooms were signed. Mara is in kindergarten, and already quite the artist! They are learning to sound words out.

My Christmas present to Jonathan was "Mr. Bump," an accident prone little guy who was very talkative. I think he liked it.

One day we went to the Wild Animal Park, and met up with my sister-in-law, 2 nieces, and 3 grand nephews. There was a singer at the entrance to the park, and Mara and Jonathan played along. Notice what good rhythm they have!

The kids lined up for the requisite pose: Adam, Andrew, Anthony, Mara and Jonathan.

I had my new Canon SX1is along, hoping to take some long shots of the animals. I got this one of the flamingos,

And this one of a lion, and then the battery died. I really need to think ahead a little better.

But fortunately, I had my little backup camera with me. You could see these animals by walking around.

But to see some you had to take a bus ride. It was a 1 1/2 hour wait for the bus -- don't go here between Christmas and New Year's! Son Mark is ignoring me, beside niece Pamela, Andrew, Mara, and Anthony. Anthony's mom, Kamela, is behind him, next to Pam & Kam's mother Pauline.

It was worth the wait to see my favorites, the giraffes.

Before we left, the kids rode the carousel. Look, Grandma, no hands!

Another day we went ice skating. I pleaded "official photographer" so I didn't have to actually skate. Jonathan did pretty well, considering it was his first time on skates, but eventually make it very clear, "I WANT MY SHOES!"

Mara had had a few skating lessons and looked like a pro.

  3. A Pittsburgh Downtown tradition is a Skating Rink surrounding the big outdoor Christmas Tree. So Jan had to take Cordelia skating, but Grammaw had to skate too....C. fell once and G stayed upright. Heh, heh.

  8. I like the flamingos too. And Mara's form on skates shows she has real talent. 2018 Winter Olympics?
