I'm in Kansas, Dorothy!

And sure enough, the first night I was there, there was a tornado warning. Fortunately, I didn't see one. Lake Scott was beautiful, and I was the only one around until the weekend, and even then it wasn't too bad.

Right in the park is El Cuartelejo, the ruins of a 7-room Indian pueblo. Not too exciting, but it was close and free.

But ever since I first went through Kansas almost 20 years ago, I have wanted to see Monument Rocks. It was fairly close to Lake Scott, so off I went.

It's just bizarre to find these huge formations in the middle of all this flat land.

Some of the best fossils in the world have been found here.

Back at my rig, I found this guy climbing up the side of my rig. I think I'll just go inside...

From Lake Scott, I moved further east to Cheney State Park, near Wichita, where I am meeting up with the WIN group going east. I got there a day early and was they only one in the park. It will be nice to be back with friends again!

  1. Sure hope you aren't any where near the lousy weather. Those rock formations are really neat. Definitely didn't think about them being in Kansas.

    1. There's plenty of room at the Rocks. You do have to drive on a dirt road, but it's a good dirt road.
