Well, not really.... But Luckenbach was made famous in the song by Waylon Jennings. The town was founded in 1849 as a trading post, and was bought by Hondo Crouch in 1970 for $30,000 when he saw an ad in a newspaper the read "Town for Sale - Pop. 3.

Needless to say, t-shirts are a large part of the town's economy.

There's a bar with some interesting decorations.

But nowadays, the town is most famous for having the best dance hall in Texas. It's not much to look at from the outside....

But there's a lot of history, and a great dance floor inside.

Even the chickens like it!

Texas law still allows smoking in bars, but they can at least ask nicely that patrons not smoke.

We went back in the evening for the entertainment. First we saw a jam session outside. Note the chicken and the rooster watching from the high seats.

Later instead of Waylon and Willie, we saw Bo Porter. Excellent band and a good dance floor.
I hope you bought a t-shirt!
ReplyDeleteWe'll be in Luckenbach later this week. Can't wait! Thanks for the reminder about what a fun place it is.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place.....I wonder if they sell those T shirts on line.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
ReplyDeleteI am not a big country music fan but Willie and Waylon are my long time favorites. My they look young! LOL Maybe I should move to Texas, the climate must preserve a person.
Looks like lots of good dancing.

I've never heard of a town closing for a whole day...but this one does and charges $15 to get in. Of course there was a music festival when I stopped by. Didn't have $15. Maybe I'll get in next time.
