Hiking Around Santee

Well, this one doesn't really count as a hike, since you can almost drive to it, but it was really interesting.

Located in Mission Trails Regional Park, the Old Mission Dam on the San Diego River was built by Spanish settlers in the early 1800s to provide water for irrigation.

The fishing must be really good.

The 13-foot thick dam used to have a flume in the opening, but it's long ago been washed away by floods.

I loved the old bricks, although based on what I've read, I'm not sure they were the original construction material.

On another day, I went on a hike up Cowles Mountain, also in Mission Trails Park.

I was Feeling a little lazy, and didn't go all the way to the top, but this guy probably did.

I was hoping to get a view of Tijuana, but that was a little too far. I did get a great view of downtown San Diego.

Also not a hike, but I have a POI on my GPS for Offbeat Tourist attractions. How could I resist going to see the "World's Largest Lemon?" Although I was a bit disappointed, I guess I should have known it would be a STATUE of a lemon....

I'm on my way now to the WIN Dance Rally. I'm the Registrar/Treasurer, so I should be pretty busy. But I'm sure I'll find time to take pictures!
