Redstone, Colorado is one of the cutest small towns I've seen. A bunch of us decided to go there to participate in their Fourth of July fun.
Before the parade, we walked the town. The Redstone Inn was built over a hundred years ago to house the bachelor coke oven workers. Now it's a fancy place to stay.
This fancy bird apartment house was in front of The Church at Redstone, a nondenominational church.
We went in and had a nice chat with the pastor's wife, while we took pictures of their beautiful stained glass windows, showing the mountains, trees, streams, and wildlife of Colorado. I loved the Aspen trees!
There were several very interesting shops in town - this was my favorite, of course, because of the rusty stuff.
Right on time, the Air National Guard did their flyover. They must have flown over a bunch of small Colorado towns. (I have to admit this is Phil's picture - my picture showed empty blue sky...)
Right at noon, the parade started.
It seemed like every kid in town was in the parade, so I was wondering who they would throw candy to.
Old people can beg too, and we did well.
Even the dogs got into the spirit of things.
The chipmunks were wondering why they were left out...
There were no fireworks this year because of the dry conditions, but I think this was one of my favorite Fourth of July's ever!
I so love those small town celebrations. So much more fun than big city doings. But no rusty stuff?
ReplyDeleteI really love parades, when I lived in Placerville, CA we had three or four parades every year. This looks like a great town, when everyone participates it's usually a pretty good place to live. :)

Great stained glass windows, showing the local area. I signed up for text messages from the Colorado Dept of Transportation and there have been several mudslides in Redstone today. I hope you are away from this area now. Colorado needed the rain but now it is creating more problems.

ReplyDeleteThe first time I went to Redstone, we were enjoying an antique shop and Goldie Hawn came in strolling her and Kurt Russells daughter, Kate (Hudson), she was just a toddler!!
ReplyDeleteso that tells you how LONG its been since I was there...GREAT Parade, and OH that stained glass is awesome, just lovely!!
And here I thought the only thing in Redstone was the Inn. Cute parade.
ReplyDeleteI love small town parades. It always seems like everyone for 50 miles is either in the parade or watching the parade. I love the little kids.
