Last Stop in Southern Florida
From Miami I moved over to Ft Myers, an easy day trip away from Sanibel Island, and J.N."Ding"Darling National Wildlife Refuge. The first stop in the refuge included an amazing array of birds - Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Ibis, and a few others....
White Pelicans gulping up lunch -
And several Wood Stork,
More Ibis and a couple Roseate Spoonbills. And this was all at one stop!
While in Yellowstone they have "Buffalo Jams," here they have "Alligator Jams."
And there he is!
We also saw some Sandhill Cranes.
We then drove by the Sanibel Lighthouse.
While we were in Ft Myers, they had a big RV show. This was my favorite.
After Ft Myers, we spent some time at Oscar Scherer State Park. It is close to several nice beaches, and we went to see Caspersen Beach first.
Everyone had these little baskets, collecting shell debris, and looking for shark's teeth. I didn't find any, but one of the basket people showed me some.
There were places where the beach was totally covered with shells.
The golden-footed Snowy Egret.
We also hiked a little on the trails in the park-
Looked for the eagles at their nest, but they were nowhere to be found -
And we kayaked a little on the Myakka River.
Next - a vacation from my permanent vacation!
That is a great beach in that area:)
