Where Am I Off to This Time?
Well, the airplane kind of gives it away. It's a sisters trip - my sister Barbara and I are off to the Hawaiian island of Kauai for a week.
We took off out of Phoenix, on a non-stop flight to Honolulu, then a much shorter flight to Kauai.
We even had a famous person on our flight, and we were impressed that she wasn't in first class. My sister thought she recognized the governor of Arizona, but wasn't sure until people started taking pictures.
We're staying in a condo in Kapa'a on the east side of the island. We have a view of the ocean in one direction -
And the mountains in the other direction.
Right outside is one of most common wildlife on the island.
On our first day we meandered up the Wailua River to see what we could find not too far from "home." The Wailua is the only navigable river in Hawaii, at least for a ways.
Just off the road is Wailua Falls. Does it look familiar? We older folks might remember Fantasy Island - "The plane, the plane!"
You can also get a nice view of 'Opaeka'a Falls from the road.
And all up and down the river are ruins of heiau - ancient temples.
Unfortunately, a lot of the rocks were used to build roads in the 1900s, but what remains is now being protected.
While we were there we took a horseback ride on the beach and then did a float through a plantation. So much fun. Love your pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun to see the two of you together...beautiful scenery!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure who your travel agent is but that's a mighty fine condo you have found. The waterfall is beautiful. I wasn't watching TV then either so it doesn't have any associations for me. Lucky you to have a sister with whom to travel.
