Second Day on the Ocean
Our second day in Astoria was a busy one! We started out at the Columbia River Maritime Museum.
Our favorite thing was the hurricane machine. Hmmmmm... How many WINs can we fit in there?
Outside is the Lightship Columbia (like a lighthouse, except movable) which we also toured.
Finally! A prop big enough for us!
Out in the river was an old tow boat. Not rusty enough for me though...
We also went to see Fort Astoria, aka Fort George, which was kind of disappointing. Mostly just a mural of a fort.
BUT! Ranald MacDonald was born here, so that might make the trip worth it.
But wait a minute! I just saw him a couple years ago in Hawaii! He told me he came there to work on his tan, but it wasn't working...
Then we went to the docks behind Safeway to visit with the sea lions. WOW! Space was at a premium!
But I got this guy to smile for me.
Next we went up to see the Astoria Column, to me the highlight of Astoria.
The beautiful murals around the column show the history of Oregon, from bottom to top. There are 4 panels devoted to Lewis and Clark.
We climbed up the the top, but the weather was not the best. But you can still barely make out the huge bridge over the Columbia River.
Looks like you are still enjoying life with the WINs.
ReplyDeleteSend some of that cooler weather our way.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
I agree on the mural post. So interesting.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see the Astor Column again....thank you!
