Back to Lewis and Clark
After flying back to Kansas City, I hurried to catch up with the WINs on the Lewis & Clark circuit in Yankton, SD. We were camped at Cottonwood Campground, just out of town on Lake Yankton. Here we are posed above Gavins Point Dam, at the Lewis & Clark Visitors Center.
This cute little guy watched over us every night!
Close to our campground was the Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery & Aquarium. Built in 1960, the hatchery has produced over five billion fish for release! We got to pet a Paddlefish, one of the main species raised here.
We got another view of one in the aquarium.
They also have lots of Pallid Sturgeon.
This little guy loved to pose for the camera, showing off his 5 legs. It's hard to see, but he has 2 left arms.
On another day, we went to town and saw some of their nice murals.
And we had a really nice tour of the Cramer-Kenyon Heritage Home.
Completed in 1886, by the Secretary of the Dakota Territory, it remains in its original decor.
We also walked to Nebraska over the pedestrian double-decker bridge over the Missouri River.
The European tradition of placing "love locks" is catching on here.
On our last day, a few of us went to the National Music Museum. Just amazing!
I have to admit I was more interested in instruments I had some experience with, such as guitar and ukulele.
One of Elvis' guitars is here. He had accidentally dropped it on stage, breaking it. He then gave it to a young girl in the audience.
They had instruments dating back to the early 1500s, including this harpsichord!
We also went to see the Spirit Mound, which Lewis & Clark, in August 1804, thought were occupied by little people, about 18 inches high with big heads. But they didn't find any, and neither did we...
If you were looking for little people with big heads, you should have gone to Roswell, NM... ;c)
ReplyDeleteYou get to see a lot of interesting stuff when you follow Lewis and Clark:)
