Upper Antelope Canyon
When the weather turned cold, I moved down the hill to Page, AZ, staying at Lone Rock primitive camping area with the WINs.
It's an absolutely gorgeous place, and I've stayed here many times.
Lyn, Rosemary and I immediately made plans to go to Upper Antelope Canyon. I've been there before, but will never tire of it. Marla was our guide, and she was excellent.
Before we got in the truck to go over to the Canyon, we were treated to a hoop dance by 2 local Navajo. (The canyon is on Navajo land.)
After a harrowing ride to the canyon entrance, we're ready to go!
It's been raining off and on, and there was even a little waterfall by the entrance. As long as we don't have a flash flood, I'm happy.
We paid the big bucks for the Sunbeam Tour, but I don't think we'll see any sunbeams today.
Time for a photo opp! Marla was very good at showing us where to take the best photos, and taking pictures of us with our cameras.
Upper Antelope Canyon is very, very crowded, but the tour companies seemed to have worked out a good system.
The rock here is sandstone, and was formed by water flowing through the canyon during the flash floods.
I basically listened to Marla and took a photo everywhere she said to.
There were some places that you could see evidence of the flash flooding.
Sometimes there were good shots directly overhead.
Time for another photo opp!
When you get to the end of the slot canyon, you go outside for a little while until you go back the way you came to the entrance.
Unfortunately, it started to rain right when we got out. Rosemary sought shelter under a little overhang.
Back at the entrance, I got a great view of a baby Great-Horned Owl. What a cutie!
We'll be going to Lower Antelope Canyon, my favorite, later.
I hope they keep a good watch on the weather before heading out for those tours. You could be in a bit of trouble if it starting raining too hard! :cO
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place - definitely going on my "to do" list. Thanks for the great photos. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day... Loved the baby owl. I'm curious about the costs involved. Hope you can share.
ReplyDelete$58 for Sunbeam tour of Upper. Lower is much less and I like it better. That post is coming later.
