Waterfalls and Old Trains

On the way to Creede, we spent a couple nights in Monte Vista, CO. It's a small, friendly town, but I thought the most interesting thing was a collection of old train cars.

Some of the cattle cars appeared to be almost 100 years old. And I thought I could still smell the cattle!

Turns out the city is suing the owner to get rid of the cars. I think they should turn it into a museum.

While there, we stayed at the Elks Lodge, right in town. It was only big enough for a couple rigs.

Definitely a friendly town - even the dragonflies.

Moving on the Creede, the fire department was really unique - it was inside a cave. The temperature in there stays at 50 degrees all year round.

Near Creede was a waterfall that I have always wanted to see - North Clear Creek Falls. Very pretty from this angle, or -

You can climb over the fence and look straight down. Of course, the WINs had to do that...

Then there was a better view down the trail a bit.

We then moved on to Pagosa Springs, CO. On the way you pass the trailhead to Treasure Falls, just a short walk uphill. Although there was not much water falling, it was still very pretty.

  2. Me too. I love waterfalls. But I also liked your old train pictures. Too bad the town can't figure out something neat to do with them.

  3. I can just imagine how much it would cost to restore those trains to museum quality, not to mention cleaning those old cattle cars so they are not so smelly.

  4. Waterfalls are to me what rusty stuff if to you so YEAH! Great looking falls. What a "cool" idea to put the fire dept in a cave!

  6. I agree - those train cars look like museum material to me. They don't even have to restore them back to the way they once looked IMHO. Love waterfalls, too ... thanks for sharing them.
