What Have I Done???
One day Max led us on a backcountry drive on the Switzerland Trail near Longmont, CO.
The road didn't seem that bad, in spite of this sign.
Here you can see the road we came up, winding along the sides of the mountains.
We had our lunch at the site of this old chimney on the top of Mt. Alta. I couldn't find the history of the place.
But then we decided to come down Pennsylvania Gulch. Uh-oh! Our information had said this was an easy drive. Maybe we were on the wrong road. Anyway, there was no turning around, and we made it back alive.
While we were in Longmont, they had a big Classic Car Show there.
My favorites were this old camper -
And of course, this rusty truck.
Now for the big news. I've been shopping for a new truck. I found this one at the local GMC dealer, but it didn't have enough towing capacity.
But here it is! The one I chose - a 2012 GMC Sierra. The thing I liked about it was the 6 gears - much better for towing than the 4 gears the Yukon had. I still have trouble getting it into a parking space, but I'm learning.
You chose very well, Diana. I have a GMC Sierra and it has been a trusted and reliable truck for almost 4 years. You will love it. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYou know Jim is applauding your choice. Any GM product is the best. Did you go diesel? Congrats on the new truck and also for making it back down that road.
ReplyDeleteThat rocky road looked like the Rubicon Trail that the Jeepers Jamboree goes over - but we had Jeeps with 4WD. That must have been quite a drive!
ReplyDeleteNice looking truck!
So glad to find you. I read, just the other day, that there are more women solo RVers than men. You are an inspiration, I'm sure, to many young women, who want to follow in your footsteps.
ReplyDeleteI have some catching up to do, reading about your past adventures. If they're like this one, I'm looking forward to following along with you.
Congrats on your new truck. Now put a topper on the box and you'll have some great storage space too.
ReplyDeleteYour new truck is a beauty! And since it is 4WD, I'm looking forward to more back country driving and pictures of rusty stuff! You done good! :c)
ReplyDeleteGuess it's time for a new header picture! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat truck.
ReplyDeleteOur toad would definitely not be able to handle that road:(
ReplyDeleteNo, the truck is not a diesel. And I definitely did not take it on that road! I won't even park next to anyone in a parking lot. A topper is on the horizon, and hopefully new header and tail pictures.
ReplyDeleteGOOD looking truck!! I am kinda thinking in that same direction-- a 4 door 4 wheel drive Chevy Silverado for my dream machine!!
ReplyDeleteTHAT 4 x 4 road looks like fun, and so is the tear drop camper!!
We too are shopping for a truck but haven't yet made our decision. I love those teardrop campers! You don't really see too many of them out there though.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I would have called that a road -- right or wrong. Congrats on your new truck.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great new truck. We love our Chevy.
ReplyDeleteJohn was a Boulder cop and in the early 70s he was part of the first meth lab bust at Mt. Alta. Looks like they have cleaned it up since then.
That's a great looking truck. May you have many happy miles together.
ReplyDeleteLove the shots of the car show. Your new truck looks fantastic. I would have thought diesel would have been more economical and also have more pulling power.
ReplyDeleteWe've been on some dicey roads, but you win hands down! Glad you got a pic of that.
ReplyDeleteLove the truck! When I first got a huge pickup, I had to find parking spots away from everything else too. Pretty soon I was just sliding into anything. It just takes a while to get used to it.
