Quartzsite is one of my favorite places to go during the year. Back in 1998, I was still working (very hard during tax season) and wondering if I would ever get here. My friend Marie invited me to fly out and stay with her so I could experience it. Coming over the rise on I10 from Phoenix, I wondered what all those white things were. They were RVs! Amazingly, I am now at my 13th Quartzsite gathering!
But let me digress a little first - I want to congratulate my nephew Mike and his wife Tara on little baby Will. Mike and Tara have been through so much to get to this point! I can't wait to hold my new great-(or grand-?) nephew.
And another digression - Chocolate Cheerios! I am pleased to announce that I am the winner of one of Paul and Marti's famous "Where Am I" contests. I'll pick up my prize in the spring when I am close to where they live. I'm looking forward to meeting them.
Back to Quartzsite - one of the first things I did was go to the free lunch at La Mesa RV. They are determined to show that there IS such a thing as a free lunch!
They are located in an old dance hall and the ceiling is covered with well-used boots.
Back in my rig, I seem to have a lot of these little buggers running around. Does anyone know what they are?
This is the largest WIN gathering of the year - we have 175 members here. In the morning we meet for "Hugs and Mugs," many times being buzzed by the nearby ultralights.
And every day at 4:00 we have our gathering. Judy is hosting the February Dance Rally this year and decided to spice up the promotion - a Hawaii theme this year.
The western desert has the BEST sunsets! They range from orange -
To the unusual pink and blue that I first saw here 13 years ago.
Hmmm...I don't know about those little bug thingys but I don't think I want to meet one! Looks like some kind of a tick. Your sunset photos are just beautiful. Hope you are having the time of your life. Are you going to dance hula?
ReplyDeleteHmmm... That bug looks a lot like a bed bug. If you wake up with red welts on your body, you will know for sure. Nasty bugs that are hard to get rid of. Hope I am wrong about this.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a stink bug to me. Squish one and you'll find out. We never had them in our area till Walmart arrived. Guess who I blame!
ReplyDeletethe more I read about Quartzsite the more I want to go see for myself I think I'd rather go when its not so populated. That one Hula girl has a serious body to cover..lol that so funny-
ReplyDeleteI hope whatever that bug is you can get rid of it easily-
Happy n Safe travels!
Darn it--I meant to add Congrats on your WIN--yummy to the prize!
ReplyDeleteAlmost everyone I know is in "Q"... why aren't I? boo hoo! That bug looks like a tick to me... I sure hope that Doc is wrong about it being a bed bug! Sunset pictures are awesome...LOVE them!!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun & Travel Safe
Donna
I vote for a kind of stink bug, but then I don't know very much about bugs. Enjoy your time in Q. You've got a big bunch of friends to share it with. :)
ReplyDeletehave fun in Quartzsite!..looks like you are surrounded!!!
ReplyDeleteDefinately looks like a stink bug to me!
ReplyDeleteWe're at La Posa West and haven't seen any bugs. Haven't heard anyone else complaining about bugs, either. Maybe they came from your last stop.
ReplyDeleteYes, the sunsets have been beautiful!
Nothing to add or enhance what has already been said. Just letting you know I'm with you, and appreciating your posts.
ReplyDeleteI do not know about the bug, but seeing the great times in Quartzite makes me think we were wrong to only visit in the off season.
ReplyDeleteYou look like you are having a great time, I want to do this myself when I can afford it, I know several people who live full time in their motorhome and love it.
ReplyDeleteI think you can rest assured you have a stink beetle http://www.google.com/images?q=arizona+stink+beetle&hl=en&rlz=1G1ACGWCENUS369&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbs=isch:1&ei=FEg_TYObHous8AaOuJGJBA&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=853&bih=427
ReplyDeleteGreat blog BTW. If you're into winning prizes and finding bargains check out my wife's blog sweeptalk.blogspot.com She is a total sweepstakes and bargain nut! You'll love it.
I am so close! Trying hard to get there! Maybe I will make it for the "Bluegrass"? Love the pictures,
ReplyDeleteI bet that bug has more protien than Chocolate Cheerios. Probably just as crunchy, though.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to be in Q next year if everything goes accoriding to our plans. When once before back in 2005 and enjoyed it.
Looking forward to presenting your prize in person, too. :c)
Diana,
ReplyDeleteThe bug looks a lot like the stink bugs we've been seeing since last Aug. Every day I come down to a few more on the kitchen floor. They seem to be everywhere on this part of the country.
I've been enjoying being a Nana and going to see Will (and Mike and Tara) every few days.
Hope all is well with you.
How does that free lunch thing work? I wanted to check out Quartszite one of these winters, but a free lunch... that might get me to make a few hundred mile drive a bit sooner :-)
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful sunsets for sure. Wow on the picture of all those rvs gathered together. I hope that is not a bed bug either but I did think that when I saw that picture, good luck on that. Take care and have fun!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great post! I wonder if I can make it there next year at this time??? That orange sunset really is the BEST! :)
