First Stop - Roatan, Honduras

Our first stop was Roatan, a 30-mile-long island north of the Honduras mainland, and our most southernmost port.

We woke up approaching the island.

Honduras is very mountainous, even this long, narrow island.

There's our dock!

We were greeted by these singers/dancers.

Five of us booked a trip to Little French Key, a lot less expensive than the shore excursions through the cruise ship.

We were taken by van to a boat, for a short trip over to the private island.

The water was nice and warm.

Don't leave your drinks here - the table was underwater when the tide came in.

Our entrance fee included 2 drinks, lunch, use of kayaks or paddleboards, and a snorkel tour. There are lots of options - you can even go ziplining.

Neptune kept his eye on us...

After a drink and a little playing in the water, we were ready for lunch.

We couldn't believe the lunch - lobster tail, shrimp, steak AND chicken, along with a few sides.

After lunch we went on our snorkel tour.

This is the second largest reef in the world.

The coral and the fish seemed very similar to what we had seen in Key Largo.

Lots of fan and plume coral -

And cute little fish.

After a while, we approached a drop-off and got back into the boat.

They also have a small zoo on the island, including this panhandling monkey and a couple lions.

Apparently, they used to have more animals, including this jaguar who's all over the internet, but their paperwork was not in order and they have lost a lot of them.

It was a wonderful stop - I highly recommend it as a non-cruise-ship-excursion to anyone who stops in Roatan.

  3. We were on NCL Jade out of Houston on the same/similar itinerary. I allowed the friends we were with to convince me to go to Tabyana on an NCL excursion ... never again ... should have done LFK.
