Sandpoint - Voted Most Beautiful Small Town

Sandpoint lies on the shores of Idaho's largest lake, 43-mile-long Lake Pend Oreille. And it WAS voted America's Most Beautiful Small Town by both Rand McNally and USA Today. I think I'd have to agree.

It's also home to Idaho's largest ski resort, where I took this photo.

Not sure what this is, but it was very photogenic.

The osprey have lots of places to nest. This one was on the top of an old bridge.

And here I am - distracted by insects again... Doesn't my Canon SD4500is take great closeups?

There are some professional-looking murals in town -

And some in an alley. Written on the sidewalk here was "Student Art in Progress."

One really cool thing we did was visit the Bird Aviation Museum and Invention Center. Dr. Forrest Bird is a physician/inventor/aviator, and also enjoys collecting old airplanes and cars.

He is most famous for inventing the "Bird" respirators, which decreased deaths and eliminated blindness in premature infants, in addition to saving many, many other lives.

The museum is free, and opened in 2007. Aerobatic pilot, Patty Wagstaff, cut the ribbon on opening day flying upside down.

But here is the best thing - Dr. Bird himself, now 92, was there to meet us and talk to us. What an amazing person!
