Downtown Omaha

Omaha is a great town with lots of things to see. I feel like I barely touched the surface. But one thing I really wanted to do was walk across the Missouri River on the Pedestrian Bridge.

The bridge is 3000 feet long and has been open for less than 2 years. From the bridge you can see Riverfront Park, where the Taste of Omaha was held last weekend.

And you can also see the largest single project mural in the United States. It's entitled "Fertile Ground," and is only a year old.

The other side of the bridge is in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

On Capitol Street in downtown Omaha are some wonderful sculptures.

They celebrate the human pioneering spirit.

When man made their first tracks through the wilderness.

And the difference between then and now.

The detail on the statues is just amazing. All the sculptures are 25% larger than life.

When men came west, wildlife was displaced, which is shown by buffalo and Canada geese moving through the nearby streets. This one even goes through a building!

The geese are very lifelike - the splashing of the fountain makes it look like they are really moving.

  1. Well, now we're going to have to go back to Omaha. We didn't see any of that. The downtown looks nice.

  4. Yes, I can tell that we are related. We are both intrigued with the lifelike qualities of statues. When we go anywhere that have statues, I am always taking close-ups.

Take care. Love you! Our little family is smaller and I can't handle that too well. One of the down sides to getting older I guess.

BTW: I have a photo to send to Phil. Tee Hee.

  6. Those statues are awesome...I love all of them but my favorite is the geese they look so realistic coming out of the fountain that way!! Such a cool bridge too, did you straddle the line when you got to it? When I was in the FOUR corners I tried to stand in 4 states all at once-
    Safe Travels!

  8. Time changes everything. The last time I was in Omaha all I saw was the inside of a maternity ward! My second daughter was born there, 50 plus years ago. I would love to take her back to see her birth city. Great pictures. Hope you make a "book" someday. I like your new photo software too.
